Become a camp monitor in Cambodia: an unforgettable experience

Do you dream of undertaking a humanitarian mission or going on a meaningful adventure? Come and join us in Cambodia as a monitor for a five-week camp!

What are PSE camps?

Each year we recruit young volunteers as camp monitors for our camps.

During the holidays, we take advantage of empty PSE infrastructure, to offer a camp experience to our children so they do not go back to scavenging on the dumpsites or do other dangerous work.

PSE camps could not take place without Marisa's energy. She began to organise them with the help of her husband and children, and now there is an entire team around her!

We see them arrive: 1, 2, 3... then 10, then 200 European monitors! Then, for five weeks, under a blazing sun or monsoon rain, PSE turns into a joyous and raucous saraband, a noisy fair where amid sack races, tugs of war and endless laughter, joy can be read on every of the 3 000 child faces present every day.

And at the end of the day, we see our monitors, 4 or 5 kids clinging to their necks, completely exhausted... but so happy!

PSE Camps in 2026

Due to the Covid-19 health crisis in 2020 and 2021, the Cambodian school calendar has undergone several changes over the past five years.

This year, the PSE camps will take place from Monday 3rd to Saturday 29th August.

What does a camp monitor do?

Instructors must be of legal age. They work in pairs with Khmer instructors and their role is to:

  • Prepare and supervise the fun and educational activities for the children, in close collaboration with the Cambodian monitors.

  • Be responsible for showers, meals, naps and supervision of the children during the camp.

  • Take care of the various tasks of tidying up, cleaning and managing the equipment.

  • Respect the timetable, schedules and rules laid down by the NGO.

  • Always be available and at the service of the children!

What are the requirements to participate?

    • Personal expenses and weekends

    • Travel insurance with COVID coverage

  • Solidarity contribution: €500, intended to cover part of the costs of selection, training, equipment, maintenance, installation and organisation of the programme. PSE encourages the financing of this contribution through solidarity actions in favour of the NGO, such as the creation of a solidarity fund.

  • Respect imperatively the rules demanded by PSE during the whole stay in Cambodia.

  • No internship agreement possible.

  • Do not publish images of children during or after camps.

What does PSE offer to monitors during the Camps in Cambodia?

  • Reception at the airport on arrival in Phnom Penh (Cambodia)

  • Materials for the implementation of the activities

  • Food - breakfast, lunch and dinner - seven days a week

  • Accommodation in shared rooms - maximum eight people per room with individual Cambodian beds (made of wood and bamboo, and covered with a mosquito net)

  • Basic health service and medical advice

  • Weekly laundry service

Selection and training process

For PSE, it is essential to have volunteers who are active, committed, supportive and generous, who know how to work in a team and who have the necessary knowledge, both to carry out the tasks they will be given and to live in harmony with the other volunteers in Cambodia. For these reasons, the NGO has pu in place a selection and training process that is essential for the development of the PSE camps.

In addition to monitors, PSE also recruits volunteers with specific skills (dental, medical, communication, etc.). Click here to find out more.

Phase 1

Complete the registration form by Monday, 2 March 2026, depending on your country of residence:

Please note that:
- The registration form includes fields for attaching files, so it is necessary to log in with a Google account. This type of access will also facilitate document management during the selection and training process.
- The candidate's curriculum vitae and cover letter will be the main factors taken into consideration.
- Only one application per person is permitted.
- Group applications will not be accepted.

Phase 2

Candidates who pass phase 1 will be invited to attend the first day of selection and training in person, which will take place in March or April 2026, on a Saturday or Sunday, from approximately 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exact date for each country will be communicated well in advance.

Places and languages

  • The day will take place in Madrid in Spanish, in Toulouse in French and in London in English, on different dates according to the established schedule.

  • Each candidate will be free to choose one of the three locations, depending on their place of residence or the language in which they prefer to participate in the day. They will only be able to attend one session.

  • During the day, there will be individual interviews, group dynamics and information sessions on the programme.

It is essential to attend and participate throughout the entire day.

Phase 3

Candidates selected at the end of phase 2 will be required to attend the second day of training, which will be held in May or June 2026, also in Madrid, Toulouse or London, in the same languages as those corresponding to each country — the exact date for each country will be communicated well in advance. If the number of participants is low in one of the countries, the corresponding day may be held online only for that country.

This day will focus on practical preparations for the trip and life in Cambodia, including:

  • Practical preparations for the trip to Cambodia.

  • Workshop featuring fun and educational activities with children and teenagers.

  • Practical advice on logistical, health and cultural aspects.

Failure to attend the second day of training will result in cancellation of participation in the programme.
