Working with our beneficiaries: the core mission of the social team

We say it a lot, but PSE is much more than just a school! From the very beginning, in addition to education, our students have been able to benefit from meals, medical care, and psychological support, while their families have also received rice and assistance with administrative procedures. To coordinate all of this, the work of the social team is essential! Discover this department at the heart of PSE's activities.

See beyond the campus

The social team is a team of 36 people, organized into two complementary divisions, to provide comprehensive and effective support to families and children:

  • The social work department works with new families through selection, social assessment, and referral of children to the most appropriate programs. It also provides regular follow-up for the 3,600 families it supports: annual visits, processing requests, monitoring absences, and managing the day-to-day issues faced by families and children. In total, each member of the department visits nearly six families per week!
  • The division dedicated to children enrolled in public schools, which provides academic support, career guidance, monitoring of absences, and meetings with parents to support each child throughout their educational journey.

Improving the response to families' needs

To ensure that our work benefits the most vulnerable, we exclusively support families living below the urban poverty line in Cambodia, estimated at $2.74 per person per day, while also taking into account a number of criteria: their housing conditions, the number of family members, their health, their assets, and any debts they may have.

Each family can benefit from one or more of our six programs: nutrition, general education, vocational training and higher education, health, protection, and direct assistance to families.

Within the same family, we take care of all the children, there is no question of selecting one child over another. We always strive to do what is fairest!

Description
Strengthening families' independence

Since its creation, PSE has constantly adapted and co-developed its actions to meet the real needs of families. Since 2024, our approach has been based on the principle of “doing with” rather than “doing for.”

Parents are supported in learning how to:

  • Be aware of existing assistance programs such as the “poverty card”, which allows you to receive free treatment at a public hospital. However, this assistance is limited to certain types of care.
  • Introduce yourself and engage in conversation with teachers and educational staff in general.
  • Interact with local authorities and administrative bodies.

This approach allows families to take pride in having actively contributed to their children's success, while affirming their dignity and recognized place in society.

We would like to be able to do more, to do better. Every year, the social team receives 1,700 applications to join one of the PSE programs. That is why your support is still needed for our association and for the families!
