“Les Pépites” (Little Gems), a powerful and moving film retracing the history of PSE

Discover the documentary film Les Pépites (Little Gems), which traces the history of Pour un Sourire d'Enfant (PSE) from its beginnings to the first children taken into care. A unique adventure and a wonderful lesson in life.

Film summary

In October 2016, the documentary film Les Pépites, by Xavier de Lauzanne, was released in cinemas: a magnificent testimony to the story of Christian and Marie-France des Pallières, the founders of Pour un Sourire d'Enfant (PSE).

The film retraces the beginnings of PSE, when Christian and Marie-France discovered the Phnom Penh municipal rubbish dump in 1995, where hundreds of children were working in terrible conditions. Deeply shocked, they decided to act! First, they served meals and took care of the rag-picker children on the dump itself. Then, they quickly built buildings near the dump to meet the children's demand to go to school.

A word by the Director, Xavier de Lauzanne

I wanted to make a film that shows that commitment comes more from emotional drive rather than from a speech.

"Les Pépites" (Little Gems) is the story of a couple who are committed to saving children. It is also the story of the children being looked after by this couple.

This is not a documentary. I simply tell a story using sensory language and each viewer needs to draw their own conclusions.

Thanks to Xavier de Lauzanne and all those who made this documentary possible.
