Celebrating thirty years of commitment with a visit from the Prime Minister of Cambodia

On Thursday July the 2nd, to mark the 30th anniversary of Pour un Sourire d’Enfant, our center in Phnom Penh welcomed Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, accompanied by his wife and several members of the government.

A recognised institution  within Cambodian society and the Cambodian economy

This visit by Cambodia’s highest authorities marks an institutional recognition of the work our organisation has carried out over the past three decades for the most vulnerable children. Today, PSE is a recognised institution within Cambodian society and the Cambodian economy.

In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted 30 years of impact of PSE in Cambodia. He also paid tribute to the vision of Christian and Marie-France, who, from the very beginning, chose to support children and their families through empowerment, helping them become agents of their own future. They made theirs the motto: “Let’s teach young people to fish, rather than giving them fish.”  Word for word, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia echoed this philosophy before our graduates last Thursday, highlighting the spirit of passing on knowledge that drives PSE.

A highlight: the graduation ceremony for vocational training students

In a highlight of the ceremony, graduates from the past year’s vocational training programs received their diplomas—some of them directly from the Prime Minister. There were 500 students, surrounded by 200 family members, 600 PSE staff members, and 220 partners.

Programs tailored to the needs of Cambodian society to ensure successful career integration

Our educational and social programs, developed independently and in cooperation with local institutions, have been providing the most disadvantaged young people with the means to learn, receive training, and find their place in society since 1996.

Today, this contribution is reflected in concrete results:

🎓 95% of our graduates find a job immediately after completing our programs.

🤝 90% of companies recommend PSE graduates.

👨‍👩‍👧 81% of our graduates provide financial support to their families.

💼 +27% the average income of our graduates is 27% higher than the minimum wage.

Behind these numbers lie thousands of stories. Children who arrived at PSE while never having had access to a regular education are now chefs, mechanics, accountants, teachers, or entrepreneurs. Many have become the first in their families to reach a skilled employment. Many are now enabling their brothers and sisters to continue their education.
