Environmental project: sowing new concerns
A project to raise awareness and take action
The objectives of this global program is both to provide environmental education to students and PSE staff, but also to establish environmental concrete regulations into our organization's policies. This ambition focuses on waste management, energy saving, greening, food quality.
Providing an environmental education for all
That’s why we give environmental classes, and environmental activities with projects led by students themselves:
- Plantation: biodiversity garden, feed the bee garden…
- Recycling
- Media: poster about environment, video competition…
- Participate events and activities
Last year, 84% of staff received Environment training, and 3 221 hours of environment lessons have been given.
An eco-club to go further for those who want
The idea of this club is to encourage the more motivated ones to take action. Responding to the actual needs in PSE center as well as outside, the students can try gardening, waste recycling, training courses related to safe water plants, Climate Fresk painting, and social activities such as community clean-ups and public tree planting.
A durable impact on the practices
For example, after four years of this project, we observed a change of attitude towards waste disposal, from using plastic freely in an organization to becoming a school without plastic. Students and staff now have completely used reusable water bottles.
“After receiving our environmental training, we always observe and reflect on the concerns of students through which they give their opinions and reflect on their feelings, which makes them happy and joyful.” Rathasophary, the head of the environmental project at PSE
The goal to develop new knowledge about environmental science, as well as solutions and activities to respond to the people’s needs, has really been impactful on the practices.
Imagining a more virtuous model
Not only PSE has educated students & staff on the environment, but also took action to improve the practices inside of the campus, and reduce our energy emissions. In 2024, PSE organized various initiatives:
- A new waste Management System: zero-plastic policies, sorting, recycling, and compost.
- Greenspace installation: 5 training gardens, 920 trees plantation, plant reproduction, 81m2 new garden spaces
- An energy consumption analysis & energy audit in 2025.
In the future, we will create a new topic about soil biodiversity as an annual theme in the academic years 2025 and 2026, and will continue to provide training on Climate Fresk to all staff in PSE & re-resubmit the PSE Environmental Officer’s Certificate to the Ministry of Environment.
