The summer camps have started !

Every year in August, for the last 15 years, the French Charity PSE (Pour une Sourire d'Enfant) organises "Summer Camps" in Cambodia. In the spirit of vacation centres, this year they will welcome 12,400 Cambodian children from among the most disadvantaged, so as to avoid them falling back into a precarious situation during the holiday season.

Nearly 200 young Europeans between the ages of 18 and 32, working in pairs with Khmer monitors, are in charge of the animation of the camps - they organize numerous fun activities: football, volleyball, drama, singing, handicrafts or cultural trips and encourage laughter and friendship!

A REWARDING EXPERIENCE FOR BOTH EUROPEANS AND CAMBODIANS

In August, Cambodian teachers take their holidays and schools across the country close. To prevent a large number of students from returning to the streets, PSE launched the summer camps back in 1999.

Every year, PSE welcomes the commitment of volunteers who bring happiness to the children. Thanks to the success of the documentary film "Les Pépites", candidates were even more numerous in 2017. Marisa CAPRILE, who initiated the project and is a volunteer with PSE Midi-Pyrénées and President of the Spanish branch, handles the selection of young European volunteers and the management of the camps

This year, 200 young Europeans, including about 50 French, have been selected. Students and young professionals are called ahead of the last week of July to be trained and meet their Cambodian partner. Nearly 200 interpreters accompany European volunteers throughout their mission.

The camps are held across 17 sites in Phnom-Penh, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap, including one for disabled children and one for adolescents. Ready for a new adventure, the volunteers are preparing to live 5 exhausting but exciting weeks!
